Est. 2005

Middleton Rugby Club was founded in 2005 under the guidance of Paul “Guido” Stroede. In that inaugural season, the club took 5th at state. Since then MRC has finished second and third in Division 2 in 2013 and 2014 respectively. 2015 was a historic year for the club, as the club was moved up to the much more competitive Division 1 and managed to finish 2nd in the state, following a narrow loss to Pulaski Rugby in the state title game.

2015

MRC re-identified as Middleton Area Rugby Club in 2015, in order to reflect the changing numbers of players from schools other than Middleton High School, namely James Madison Memorial High School, and Waunakee. In fall 2016, MARC began play in the inaugural season of Wisco 7s. Wisco 7s is the first and only high school sevens tournament series and MARC made a strong showing during the 7s seasons.

2017

Paul Stroede passed the Head Coach torch to Matt Bremser in 2017. In 2018, MARC won its first state championship in Division 2. Middleton moved up to Division 1 in 2019 and placed 3rd, and in 2021 MARC took 2nd in D2 finals. MARC placed 3rd place in Division 2 in Coach Bremser last year as Head Coach in 2022. The third coach in MARC history, Matthew Davey, will be looking to compete for our second cup in club history.

2023

MARC rugby started a Middle School program to help grow the sport in the area and is run by former high school head coach Matt Bremser. The middle school program has grown each year with more and more middle schoolers learning the sport of rugby. in 2025 the middle school team battled through a tough tournament season and earned the points to be crowned state champions for the first time in program history. Multiple players were also selected to play with Badger Selects at the National 7s Championships in Ohio.
